HUUF Home

Welcome

Humboldt Unitarian Universalist Fellowship is a thriving liberal religious community of close to 150 members. We work and play together to meet our individual and group needs - be they spiritual, intellectual, or social. We welcome all who seek a religious home, free of creeds and based on love, reason, and conscience. We first met over 50 years ago as a small lay-led fellowship and have grown with the help of strong leadership - both lay and ministerial - to a dynamic fellowship serving Humboldt County and the Northern coast of California. We invite you to browse through our website to learn more about our Sunday services, our programs, social action activities, and religious education.

HUUF has been featured in the North Coast Journal twice this year!  We were voted "Humboldt's Best Church" in the readers' poll HERE and also as a "Green" wedding venue on page 5 of the Wedding Guide HERE.

Upcoming Events February 2012

Services are held at 10:30 a.m. every Sunday.  Religious Education and child care are provided during each service.

Sunday, February 5th - 10:30 a.m. service - Standing on the Side of Love:  Learning and Loving and the Platinum Rule with Dennis Reynolds - While each of us is shaped by our personal history, we have the wonderful capacity to change, to deconstruct old notions and beliefs, and to learn from many sources how we might build new beliefs and new ways of being that more fully honor love for all.

Friday, February 10th - 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. - HUUF "Love-In" Dance Party - Don your favorite tie-dye or garb that might have been worn to the Filmore in the 1960's and groove and float to Big Brother and the Holding Company, Jefferson Airplane, The Dead, et al.  In addition to tunes and dancing, there will be a pasta bar for feasting.  Please bring a salad, bread or sweet treat to share.  All ages welcome!

Sunday, February 12th - 10:30 a.m. service - Standing on the Side of Love:  Love Whomever You Will with Dennis Reynolds - Amazing progress has been made in our UU congregations and the larger community to move toward inclusion and equity for gays, lesbians and transgendered people.  As we celebrate, let's avoid becoming too comfortable and, perhaps, complacent and remain committed to full equity for all.

Sunday, February 19th - 10:30 a.m. service - Forging Relationships with the HUUF Social Action Committee - As part of the Social Action Committee's effort to forge a closer relationship with the congregation as a whole, HUUF member Jenny Cranston, a professor emeritus of theater and women's studies at HSU (1969-1992), will lead a Reader's Theatre performance.  In the program members of SAC will show some of the many activities that the committee has undertaken.  The aim is to discover which of these activities, or others, the congregation would like to support at this time.

Monday, February 20th - the HUUF Office will be closed for Presidents' Day.

Sunday, February 26th - 10:30 a.m. service - Honeybee Democracy with Joy Thomas and Jack Munsee - What lessons might honeybees have for humans, especially for UU's?  Joy Thomas, who has kept bees for seven years, will talk about the method bees use for decision-making when they need a new home.  Jack Munsee, long active in the Social Action Committee at HUUF, will describe how this method could be applied to improve UU meetings.  Both Joy and Jack are retired from Cal-State Long Beach where she was a librarian and he a professor of physics.
